two things incidental in this , apart from Aubrey/Maturin of course, strike me
St Vincent: the rift with Nelson - they might as well have written 'St Vincent: the rift with everyone ' : ) the old git knew how to carry resentment for sure
and that last description of the Rose
Auxiliary power: twin diesel engines =I can hear all our heroes pondering that addition in the celestial harbour inn :)
the calendar is turning up some good things as ever
*g* Oh yes, St Vincent was able to carry grudges. As far as I know he and Thomas Lord Cochrane resented each other extremely. I guess the whole book would be of interest to you and any navally minded fan. It is really very interesting.
I feel Jack Aubrey would not be in favour of that auxiliary power...
The Admiral's House in Admiral's Grove. It is a gorgeous setting. Did you take those photos?
I once read about a Hampstead Walk and the guide mentioning that (at least at the time) the house did belong to Mr Crowe. It is just so perfect ;) I remember that it was used in Mary Poppins, and we must not forget that Constable painted it
Actually, I knew the Constable painting first, but had no idea about the house itself. Imagine my delight when I later heard that it had -however faint- connections via Mr Crowe to O*Brian's books
Don't we all wish for that? *sighs* Nevertheless the article is from 2002-2003 when they had not even begun with the movie. So in the end it is likely to stay wishful thinking.

I was also reminded, reading this, that Russell Crowe visited The Admiral's House in London.

A happy Advent to you too.

Unfortunately I'm no photographer so I pinched these from Google images!
But I had no idea Constable had painted it so thank you ever so much for that; how interesting!
