Coooool! All of them! I liked Casal's version a tad better than Yo-Yo Ma's. All of them deserve roses. Just the fact, that you can play such intricate things on an instrument like a cello...

Jacques Bono's version is awesome too. Not to speak of sexy Sting and even more sexy Allesandra DANCING a cello piece!

Isn't it wonderful what human beings can achieve?

Thanks for this very lovely 2. Advent calendar post! I enjoyed it immensely!

Always good to hear these in any context !

There is a recording I love which I bought in Prague years ago of a ( then ) very young ( and - it is has to be said - very handsome ) Czech cellist by name Jiri Barta

I must now dig it out again in some point and thanks for the reminder and for these gems :)

I am always intrigued to hear different cellists play. Their interpretations of this lovely piece vary such a lot...and each variation is lovely in itself. :)

Yes, he was and is still very handsome :) A girl sometimes needs eye-candy too. *g*

Thank you :)

It is amazing how different a melody can sound when played on the various instruments. The Ferri-Sting cooperation had been on one of our TV stations some time ago. :)

A wonderful collection! The two guitar versions are new to me - most enjoyable. Thank you so much!

The Casals clip, seen in this context, made me wonder whether Patrick was acquainted with him. Collioure is only about 50 miles away from Prades, and Patrick speaks so feelingly about music it's hard to imagine he didn't make the journey regularly, at least for the chamber music festivals. I think Casals lived in that area, too, in the postwar years anyway.

I think it will be left to us to continue wondering. In a way describing Casals does even sound like describing Stephen. ;) And Casals is Catalan!

That had occurred to me, too. Physically correct, Catalan, idealist, cellist. Yet another addition to the list of questions to ask Patrick when we see him.
