Drabble! <3

And this new drabble comes much later than I'd expected, but better late than never, right? :D It's again this sort of harmless fun which of course I dedicate to wicked_warrior who I miss like woah *sniffles loudly*. I thank tootsiemuppet because she always seems to be around whenever I decide to write something to do with Master and Commander.

I think this time it actually has a sort of PG-13-ish touch. Enjoy! ♥

Jealous (Jack/Stephen PG-13)

Jack isn’t a suspecting man. He doesn’t like thinking the worst of people, even less ponder whether he might be the centre of their dislike. But there are times when he’s looking out at the sea, and can’t help it. It may have to do with the eyes he feels burning at the back of his neck every once in a while.

For a while he looks into his men’s eyes with an incontrollable suspicion, fears a mutiny and hopes his luck isn’t about to be over. He eventually finds the look he needed to see in someone’s eyes, indeed. They look up at him from Stephen’s arms.

Jack can’t for the life of him muster why it - she, he remembers Stephen saying - is bound to never forgive him. If she really has the sweet, unsuspecting nature Stephen sometimes seems to think the sloth has, she certainly does a fantastic job at hiding it. There are times when the sloth, up from Stephen’s arms seems to smile at him with a sort of wicked satisfaction and say, See, he’ll never carry you because you are big and fat and you’ll never fit into his lap. Jack hates to agree.

But it gets worse. Sometimes he’ll wake up in the middle of the night beside Stephen, tangled in pale, slim limbs and find the sloth watching him with silent fury as she dangles from her cot. A part of Jack wants to ask if it’s more cake she wants, but should he get to close, he fears the thing would try to very slowly rip his eyes off his face. And enjoy it.

He tells himself he’s gotten used to it by now. That he doesn’t mind all that much the sloth’s presence whenever he wants to talk to Stephen when they’re alone, to touch and feel him, but he can’t, really. Not until he solves this.

In the end he finds the sloth alone one day, and offering a piece of cake in his hand he attempts to make a show of his good will. The sloth studies his face, then his hand. In the end she takes the cake, turns her back him, and slowly makes her way out of the room as Stephen walks in.

‘’What did you do to her?’’ Stephen asks Jack as if he’d just seen him burning a baby.

‘’Nothing.’’ Jack says, and lifts his hands up in surrender as he snakes a hand around Stephen’s waist and offers a smile. ‘’I think she likes me better now.’’
