Confused

I'm currently reading a hardcover, only to find myself regularly bringing my finger to the text, I dont know, unconsciously expecting it will show a translation or a synonym of the word, or that it will link me to another page, or open a notepad to scrabble my thoughts...It's almost unbelievable how quickly unconscious habits take hold!

Wow, I haven't gotten to that point yet. But my kindle is one of the early ones so there's aren't many bells and whistles.

My kindle is the early ones, too, but I have been reading most of my reading non fiction and on tablet lately, so there's that...

Lol! When we were first able to record, pause and fast forward TV (only a few years ago) I found myself constantly reaching for a remote during boring bits at the cinema.

Though pausing live TV still freaks me out in case I'm stopping the world turning.

I can believe it. I read both Kindle books (and fanfic-downloaded-from-AO3-as-ebooks) in Amazon's app on my phone, but also actual news articles where you have to scroll down top-to-bottom not left-to-right. And my brain always really resists changing from one to the other. You think we're intelligent and on top of things, and then you get evidence to the contrary.

We get used to things so quickly and yet we're usually resistant to conscious change.

It makes me wonder how my eventual grandchildren will react to traditional books.

If they have a question about what they read, there will be a danger that they'll actually have to talk to another human being to get an answer!

HEhehe My niece is 10 and she's amazed because there are so many actual books in the room she sleeps in when she stays over. The other day she asked me if I had read them all and why I kept them if i already had... Theirs is going to be such a different world from ours!
