Did you adopt the dogs as adults? In that case they may be wrongly trained, maybe not to eat dog food. I learned that the hard way once. In that case you need to put out sim food for the dogs, let them eat it and then lecture them on eating sim food, and teach them to eat dog food instead. Anyway - glad you got them back!
I think that might have been it. Since I'm trying to train them as "guard" dogs I locked the dogs out from the main house, but I didn't think to check and make sure they could actually cope with a dog food only diet. <.<
I was happy they were able to get them back to, I've never had animals taken away for neglect before and was going 0.o at my screen the entire play session.
