My first, gut reaction was "oooh... pretty...." but after a while of studying the picture, I'm even more in love with it. I'm a huge fan of sketchy drawings (sketchy to me meaning the strokes are visible) because there's an intimacy, a direct connection with the process. But the scribbliness is balanced out perfectly by the precision and control inherent in the lines. It's indicative of practice, skill and talent; it gives the feeling that you just dashed this off, without having to erase and redraw and reproportion.
I love both of their hair, and James' ear nestled into it, and the whorls of the wood in the background. And James' neeeeeeck. And how Jack and James seem to be one continuous being, modulating softly.
It's been so long since i drew this and since you replied to it. But I haven't visited here in so long, and it made me feel really good to read your reply again.
It's been a while since I stopped drawing...I don't have motivation for it anymore, as my life seems dominated by engineering now, which saddens me to know that I won't have much time to draw once I get into the work force. But reading your comment makes me want to take out a pencil and a piece of paper and create something. I'm very rusty right now, but I really miss the fun of drawing.
Thank you for the great feeling I got from reading your reply.
