Damn you making me want to re watch some old Mac classics (what the hell! they're all 'classics' :P)
I don't remember him having an accent in TBFTG, and while I adore the man of course, I don't recall RDA ever pulling off a good accent *twiddles thumbs*
I vaguely remember the stapling and wondering if that would really work (something for the Mythbusters to try out I guess).
Blind Faith is too sad. I think I've only ever watched it the once.
The accent is... not actually that bad. I think. Okay, I'm not great at picking up on accents myself, so take that with a pinch of salt - but it doesn't make me curl up into a ball of embarrassment on the sofa, as I do every time he tries for "Irish". And if you don't remember it, it can't have been memorably bad, right? :)
And, hee. I think the stapling might work - it was a leather jacket, stapled along the seams, with an industrial staplegun, and he made sure the guy didn't have much leverage room. Depends how big the staples are, what he's stapled to, and if he can get his knees under him, I should think. And if it's a real leather jacket or a crappy imitation one that'll tear easily.
Industrial staple guns should use industrial staples, and the more the load is distributed, the harder it is to bust loose -- kind of like Gulliver vs. higher-tech Lilliputians. I found it entirely believeable. (And it added a lovely layer of humiliation to the Whomping the Bad Guy bit.)
(I also recall a running joke from around that time about "getting stapled to the ground".)
There are many things that RDA can do. Accents are sooo NOT a case in point, unless the accent you want is broad Minnesotan.
Yeah, he really does look distraught in that moment in Blind Faith when he understands what Pete is up against. I have a feeling it wasn't acting so much as reacting to RL. My youngest, the Whirlwind of Distruction was in the room the first time I ran into Blind Faith, and she was very impressed by the acting in the scene where Mac burns his hands. It took me a long time to convince her that if the production really hurt the actors, then no one would want to be one, even if it did pay very well, and especially not co-ordinated and pretty people, who could get other work fairly easily!
Yeah, almost every time he tries an accent, it makes me flinch. This one actually wasn't too bad, though (if inexplicable - no one knew him, there was no reason for him to suddenly be from New Yoik).
Aw, hee! That's cute. Yeah, I thought the burned hands thing was very convincing, too. It looked extraordinarily painful. I rewatched it for screencapping purposes, and he does a good 'fall over, get up, fall over again' bit. RDA's accents may not be up to much, but his portrayal of pain is very good.
Yeah. My oldest kid used to point out "RDA does pain. Professionally!. Michael Shanks, not so much. He should take lessons from RDA." I have a feeling that RDA's medical records have some relationship to how good he is at portraying pain. He says that in that second arm break when he was a teen his elbow bent the other way, so he started good and young!
Ah, thank you. I wonder if all the other agencies laugh at the DXS because they can't spell? *g*
And oh, god. Regan. I see. I feel similarly about Thatcher. Well done MacGyver for being topical. I like the show's politics more than most similar shows, even if they are heavy-handed about it.
It feels like this season has picked up a bit. It seems like they were aware of the problems, and tried to address them, as much as they were able. They even seem to be making an effort to have more MacGyverisms. Now if they'd just bring back Jack, Nikki, and the voiceovers, I'd be completely happy. :)
I think the other agencies either laugh at the DXS for being fictional, or cry about it for being implausible.
They bring back Jack Dalton in S7, but both RDA and Michael Greenburg hated the voice-overs, so those never come back. Nor does Nikki. Except in fic -- I've had a blast with her in Reverb. I use the voice-overs too, but in a rather different manner (and that's all Lothi's fault).
I love the burn scene in Blind Faith, in a wincey fashion, as well as the near-breakdown when Pete tells him about the glaucoma. Emotional and physical whumpage, all in one episode! If RDA hadn't done hurt so well, I suspect there would be far less whumpage in fanfic. Poor guy. ;-)
Trail of Tears and Faith, Hope and Charity both have heavy whumpage also. I should be embarrassed for liking that about them. Oh, well.
And my take on the accent in TBFTG was not even to recognise that he was attempting one.
It's a shame they hated the voiceovers. They're a little cheesy, I guess, but... so is everything else about the show. And boo about Nikki disappearing. At least we have fic.

Yeah, I just watched Faith, Hope and Charity. Heavy on the 'hurt' part of hurt/comfort. But he's so preeeeeeetty when he's whumped! *g*
Yeah, and given their history, quietly shipping characters off wouldn't have been unusual. I thought it was really brave of him to do the scene where he was explaining about glaucoma - that must've been hard.

...I may have thought about this for too long.
