So do any of you know whether there is any logic to when I'm required to sit through an Internet ad to log in to LJ and when I can just log in without harassment? I can't find the pattern. Do all of you have the same issue or are they just picking on me?

If you have a basic (not "plus") account and stay logged in, you won't see ads unless you visit the entry of someone who has a plus account. You can close the ads by clicking the x that eventually appears at the upper right (where you'd expect it to be).
