Hello! I'm actually very new to this whole site and found you because of your fantastic Weeping Angel costume. It was absolutely amazing, and is definitely one I am trying to make for Gallifrey One in February. It's my first time cosplay-ing,:) I've checked out a lot of your additional comments on little changes to the design you did, and those are good. I have a couple of questions: what's the best way to do this for someone who is not adept at sewing? My biggest issue right now is getting the fabric together for the under and over bits. How did you figure out the dimensions for the wings--did you adapt those to your height/frame? Thanks for any help you can give! Have a good one!
I'm so sorry for not having answered this before - I don't check my messages very often!
Fortunately, this costume really doesn't require being very adept at sewing. Most of the fabric is just a big tube, nice and full so that you get a lot of drapes and pleats. Now, in my costume I sewed an underdress, but you don't have to do that if you don't want to. Apart from making the big tube for most of the dress, the only part you have to sew is a little bit around the neckline that you gather the tube in to. Trust me, if you looked at mine up close you'd see plenty of huge stitches and ragged edges!
My dimensions for the wings were dictated by the foamcore board display stands that I used - I just made them as big as I could to fit on that.
Good luck with your costume - hope you have a blast at Gallifrey!
Hey, I'm working on my own Weeping Angel costume, and I'm having a bit of trouble with the wings. What dimensions did you use? It would be super helpful to have some numbers to work with. Thanks!
