This is so beautiful, I adored it. I have nothing more to say other than simple admiration.

Atmosphere is everything. (Well, almost.) If someone made me choose (why would they do such a thing?), and I could only read one kind of fic ever again, it would mostly likely be moody, atmospheric, gloomy-yet-sweet stuff set only in Mulder's apartment.

I really like the dialogue here. It's loaded without being overwrought, these snippets of dreams and stories they're sharing.

Because I am altogether too grim, I think this may be my favorite line: Once she had watched him turn a gun to his own head with swift and dreadful ease. Suicidal tendencies can run in families. Shut up, shut up.

I almost feel like Mulder's apartment is a character in its own right, sometimes. The office too, but not nearly so much.

I'm glad you like the dialogue- they talk to one another in such a particular way, and it can be difficult to get a hold on sometimes.

Oh, it's absolutely a character. The office, too, but I agree that his apartment, more so. For me, part of that has to do with the fact that the office has growing pains over the first couple of seasons, before they settle in and figure out what it is, design-wise. But his apartment is his apartment pretty much as soon as we see it. It's a stroke of genius.

I think because the way they speak to each other is so particular, it takes not just work, but patience, to get it right. At least for me, I have to sit with it, let them take their time deciding what to say. It's frustrating, occasionally, but I find it's the only way to get it right. You can't rush it or force it, because it'll come out wrong. So I'm always happy when someone's had the fortitude to do that. (Then again, maybe that's not how other people approach it at all, and I'm just being overly dramatic.)

No, that's definitely how I have to approach it, to sit and listen and wait. Though then occasionally they start talking so quickly it's hard to get it down properly...

I came here through leucocrystal's recommendation and wow, I am glad I did....

I don't often write things like this as I am quite a picky reader but this piece is breathtakingly good, absolutely in-character, extremely well-written, sensitive, gloomy....and it's in Mulder's apartment and I am such a sucker for Mulder's apartment!

One of the few fics I'll definitely read more than just once....

Oh I love Mulder's apartment too- it's almost a character, in some ways.

Thank you for the lovely comments!
