Your writing always, always takes my breath away. This is an absolutely beautiful piece; melancholic yet hopeful, and I feel as though I'm in the room with the two of them, watching this unfold.

it's metaphor, i think, that you're best at. good at all of it, but best at metaphor, at understanding that everything isn't 'just' anything - that everything is resonant. and then putting that understanding into words, into the minds and mouths of the characters.

The sunrise is edging at the blinds and picking out blurry daguerreotype shadows amongst the scattered clothes on the floor and the folds in the duvet, craters on a moon map, an unexplored land.

nothing you say is ever without an underlying sense of some reverence, both painful and pleasurable, and it's a vital part of who these characters are in my head, and i love it.

Scully catches herself watching the way the yellow light plays over the muscles of his back, the gradients of gold there. It had been dark in her apartment too, that night, and she had only felt, hadn't really seen. She concentrates on taking off her shoes.

As they say, God is in the details. I sometimes worry a little bit about having Terribly Significant Mugs and such, but there's something very meaningful about it too. Plus it is fun to play set designer.

I think this one really needed to be a lot more low-key than my other stuff, by virtue of setting alone. It's very much a night-time story, quiet and sleepy and full of things that you can't entirely see, which is a lot about how I see this stage of the relationship too. I'm so glad you like it.
