Yup, it's the BNC connector which predates the RCA connector but still rules in the CCTV market, possibly because the connectors have that lock which could reduce embarrassing episodes involving yanked cables and suddenly useless security systems.

When archiving VHS, you will get the best quality from a VCR with S-Video outputs. This is because the luma & chroma are stored separately on VHS, so using S-Video (even with normal VHS tapes) skips one composite step.
