Fannishly MIA

So, I sort of disappeared off the face of the planet there for a while. School has been, it turns out, really time consuming -- who knew!

I've been spending a lot of time searching for My Next True Fandom after Stargate: Atlantis, and to be honest, I haven't had much success.

1. Leverage -- I came for Parker (Best Parker Moments - youtube) and ( Read more... )

Actually, the third movie rekindled my love of Jackass. There's really no decent fic for the franchise because the people that would write good fic haven't seen any of it yet, which is a huge shame, since it's one of the gayest things out there. Yes, it's up there with trees full of monkeys on nitrous oxide. Terrifically homoerotic the whole way through.

Boardwalk Empire rocks my socks with its class and wit and period costumes, and makes me happy every week to see female characters that smart and skilled at dealing with other humans. The Good Wife features Josh Charles and his lips, and is basically competency porn since everyone's really, really good at their jobs and is seen putting time and effort into research and preparation for their court cases. Eureka is still funny and charming and cheerful, but I haven't gotten to the fourth season yet.

I still follow House, mostly to keep up with the conversation. And now that I've got the first five seasons of Supernatural, I'm starting back from the beginning and working my way towards ( ... )

I admit I am biased here, as I beta'd this fic, but: Where The Wild Things Are by aestheticized is like, the ONLY Inception fic I have read and not gotten bored with. And I don't even like Arthur/Eames. It's that good.

P.S. PLEASE WATCH SHERLOCK. I THINK YOU WOULD LIKE IT.

OH YEAH, ACTUALLY I DID WATCH SHERLOCK, LIKE, TWO DAYS AGO. YOU ARE RIGHT, IT WAS PRETTY AWESOME. HOW DID I FORGET?

I was going to rec Sherlock, but now I'll just point you to the sherlockbbc comm instead. It's well-tagged and has links to all sorts of things Sherlock Holmes. It is also hugmongous as the fandom just went kablooey shortly after the first episode aired.

I-it is so weird to see someone getting into Naruto now, it was My First and Longest Fandom up until a couple of years ago XD I'd try and rec things to you but they're probably all super out-dated since I haven't kept up with the series.

I started reading it shortly after Naruto started. I managed to get to the chuunin exam arc and slightly beyond. I can't stand anime tournaments. The fights are already too long and in a tournament, there isn't even emotional or political motivation for them. And then there was Sasuke's kidnapping. In which each fight goes, "Wow, you're not left handed? I'm not left handed either!" Or even better: "Oh no, I'll have to use THAT technique. If I use THAT technique, I'll DIE." AT that point I couldn't take it seriously and gave up.

Also, rec away! I don't mind if they're not about the latest developments.

In short: Arthur is a technician; Eames is an artist. From what we see of Arthur, this is not a wrongful accusation. Hardly an obstacle to a slash pairing, but inception fic never addresses it

I think maybe it's not addressed because other people aren't seeing it that way. Eames calling Arthur a stick in the mud with no imagination could be an artist disdaining a technician, or it could be an improviser making fun of a planner, or it could be a flirt expressing irritation with a reserved guy who's always focused on work, etc. Interpretation!

Not that I have a dog in this hunt, I'm only peeking in on Inception fandom now and then; I philosophically differ from the emphasis on commentfic. So hard to find things.

Anyway, if you do get interested in it again, sabinetzin has written several fics that focus on Ariadne.

Your cartoons are great as always; I especially love the adorable Parker and Hardison.

I think the portrayal of Eames' feelings in fic has more to with the way slash tends to be written than the way the canon is. Even granting interpretation -- and obviously this is mine -- there is real dislike in canon, and its dislike that Eames has considered carefully. It's in no way and objection to the pairing, and I read many good fics about Eames finding Arthur in all ways appealing -- but I was very disappointed that it appeared to be all there was.

I find that if I really like a canon source, I get much worse at reading the slash. :)

And thank you for the links! I will check those out.

Yeah... I just didn't get that from it, and that's when I saw it opening week, not knowing it was going to become this fannish craze; I saw Eames as amused, tossing off light insults, fondly antagonistic (in a way I tend to associate with British guys particularly-- my English friends are always talking shit about their friends in a teasing way.) Especially since later they joke with each other during the job (about Arthur leading the projections on a merry chase) and Arthur smiles and Eames grins enormously. *hands* Anyway, you're not alone in the more combative interpretation, so maybe there will be more angles on the characters eventually.

For me, it was the scene where Dom recruits Eames and Eames recommends against Arthur for inception. The rest of it-- yeah, I could go either way. But that scene colored the rest of it for me.

Ok, I have to run to class. I will check out that link. :)

If we're talking about non-Asian tvshows, my current obsession is Hawaii Five-0. There's lots of banter and snark, a great team and kick ass characters: Kono, a rookie cop who punches guys in the face and surfs like a pro (what, I have a girl-crush on Grace Park, nothing wrong with that); Chin, who's hot like a whoa and his manpain is strong (and dude, you can never go wrong with Daniel Dae Kim, I'm just sayin); Danny who's generally reasonable and a great detective but who also has a knack for having EPIC and very slashy arguments with his partner and boss Steve (Scott Caan is great) and Steve (Alex O'Loughlin) who is crazy, but oh so good. And very hot. And a SEAL. Oh and the slash abounds, did I mention that? Because HOLY WOW, this is the slashiest show I've seen in years. ♥__♥ It's like the writers are writing fanfic and taking it to the screen. I...can't even, okay ( ... )
