Ohhh Penny. PSI = Pounds per square inch, or, how much air should be in your tires. I usually put between 30-35 in mine, depending. And you should be checking the air pressure in your tires about once per month. I do mine on the first of each month (along with everything else that needs to be done on the first day.. breast check, etc. ;) ).

Also, check your car - you may not need the manual. Oftentimes there will be a small sticker/placard on the inside of one of your doors (on the door frame) that tells you what the PSI should be.

I'm sure you know this now, but if you didn't, it's good stuff to know. :) I'm glad you two made it home okay.

Well I won't tell you everything Anmorata told you, because I was gonna... but just so you are aware, you can't always count on what the little sticker says (usually along the frame or outer edge of the door on the driver's side), but you can always count on what the tire says. Check along the walls and look at all that's written there; something will be a number followed by "psi" - that's the number you want that tire guage to say, +/- 5 psi is ok, but not much more or less or your car won't be running as efficiently. :) HTH! (My dad's an automechanic and would have KILLED me if I didn't pass this info on to you... ^_^)

SIGH.

I have learned most of what I know about cars by learning the hard way, in situations very similar to this one!

The one thing I had my dad teach me to do, though, was change a tire. It's actually very very empowering to know how to do it and I hope you learn asap. I have had to do it 3 or 4 times in my 12 years of driving. It was a blessing to know how each and every time!

Anyway, sorry about all the trauma. BLAH and ick!! *hugs*
