We always said "tennis shoes" in KC, but since I moved to the East Coast, I now say sneakers. Same with Coke - now I say soda. Since we moved to Nova Scotia, I can say "supper" again. "Dinner" is lunch here.

I think "supper" is a lower economic class thing. My grandmother always called a lunchbox a "dinner bucket" - you weren't taking that to the boardroom!

Dinner bucket, I love it! I've also heard it called a "lunch pail", which inexplicably makes me giggle.

I must be from another planet than Texas because I had lots of different words for things. Stream, skillet, drain pipe, sofa, sweet fizzy drinks, water bug, teeter-totter and with a knife and fork.

I grew up in California but had a very Irish Mum so that may explain some of the terms.

Yes, there is quite a difference, isn't there? But the other people from Texas, or from the southern U.S., who've done this meme have all said "skillet" as well, so I guess I'm an oddball, even in my own state!
