review - Grey's Anatomy 5x10 - "All By Myself"

Dec 05, 2008 10:57

Alright, I'll put it bluntly. Last night's episode of Grey's was bullshit and not even Mary's arc as Virginia Dixon makes me want to see the third episode she's in. Maybe I had too high expectation as to what a show could do with a character like Dixon. Maybe I didn't know just how bad the writing of the show really is, because I had never watched ( Read more... )

I still don't have watched the ep (in 11 minutes, in fact) but I'm feeling the same as you about how the character of Dixon was negliged, it's sad....

LOL hey... good point! Kely, wait and watch...and then you tell us (but I'm afraid you will think the same like us). As a I said in other comment, she still has some few scenes (and one horrible)

Need a mom *cries*

I'm really disappointed, or I have to wait the subtitles, don't know..she's not used as they should use her talent and it's a shame !

I don't think I will even bother to download after seeing this.

I'll just wait and see her scenes on youtube as I am sure somone will rip them.

Sad. They had such scope and a briliant actress to carry this off and sounds like they pissed it against the wall.

Well, you should definitely judge for yourself. Tchi said she didn't think it was that bad, so maybe it's just me. ;)

My thoughts exactly. :(

You should never read my reviews before watching stuff yourself, Fetus! *lol*

It wasn't very good, not interesting. I'm blasé and disappointed, but well, It could have been worse xD

Of that I have no doubt! *lol* Maybe the 3rd episode is worse. *snicker*

Blasé and disappointed are really good words to express what I feel, too. I didn't care for her character at all in this episode, although I was of course trying and that's what surprised me (negatively).

but grey's hasn't the quality of ER. ER was a really really good show, interesting and not as stupid as grey's. And the writing was so much better.

Yeah, that's why I said I wish! *lol* I'm still not sure what Grey's is actually supposed to be - a comedy? a drama with comedic undertones? a big love soap? easy entertainment? or just dense? :/

I think, I would have been even more disappointed if i hadn't read your review before. So thanks for the review ^^

LOL! I live to serve! *ggg*

*loves using french words in english :p*

I know! Personaly, I love those English words that have a German or Latin origin. ;)

Very good question! I'd say, it's something you watch after a very very very very long day of studying in order to rest. You know it's very stupid but as it's not complicated you keep on watching it :p. But I don't have adjective to qualify it :p

Oh dear. I can tell you that the last thing I would want to watch after a long day of studying is THAT. Maybe after a marathon when my body can't move and therefore can't reach the remote control. Hmmmm... Maybe I should go for a long run before I watch her 3rd episode. *ggg*

( what the hell does the word "effete" mean? I don't even find it on Wordreference :O do you know?)

Uhm, I think it means "exhausted" or "outworn".

question: one of the Asperger feature is to don´t realize when you are bothering people? because only this would explain that scene.

Anyway I didn´t like Dixon in it, but I really liked in her others scenes.

I don't think so. In the scene itself Virginia noticed that she had offended these people, she even said it out loud.

Well, I asked her wether her son can for instance understand/use sarcasm and she said he's actually very good with it. Which in turn made me assume that people with Asperger's are very well capable of understanding moods and undertones. Not in every case maybe, as there is a broad range, but still.

From what I saw of Virginia in her 1st episode she also didn't seem to be completely dense in that sense. The scene in the elevator made me believe that she is well aware of what is going on around her. She may not be able to express herself properly in every situation, though. *shrugs*

I simply wish we would have gotten a bit more exposure on that.

I just watched and I think disappointed is the word. I thought Mary did as good a job as she possibly could with the material she had. It's a real shame, I was hoping as you were that with someone as talented as Mary the writers on Greys would have been able to provide her with good writing and material that she could really get her teeth into but clearly they aren't capable of anything other than soapy drama and romance.

I'm so disappointed - this could have been such a great opportunity for this show and it's like they're just throwing it away.

If this is the best they can give her then I hope Mary doesn't come back after these 3 eps. She's so much better than this show.

In regards to her last scene I'm not sure what that was about but I thought maybe she was pleased with herself for 'getting' that the Chief was trying to torture Yang in that way. You know how she said in the last ep that she often doesn't get certain cues like sarcasm or types of humour? So maybe she was just pleased that on this occassion she had?

I agree. My (your) reaction wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't settled our hopes on a rather high scale. So yes, "disappointed" about covers it.

I can't quite believe this either. Maybe she gets a totally awesome 3rd episode with tons of background and character exposure, but I somehow doubt it.

I would love to hear her thoughts on this as she is usually very protective of the characters she plays. I bet she saw this character as a great opportunity/challenge and it must be disappointing to realize Dixon is thrown away like this. I guess. Or maybe she doesn't see it that way. ;) Throughout the episode I was wondering if they cut off a lot of her arc in this episode, because the scenes had a trimmed feel to them.

Yeah I don't have high hopes. I'll be very surprised if the 3rd ep is any better than the 2nd.

Yeah I'm wondering about that too. I think she would have seen it as a great opportunity but there's no way that ep gave her opportunity for much of anything! She didn't have enough screen time and she doesn't seem to have much a storyline line at all tbh. Maybe they did cut her arc or maybe the 3rd of her eps is really focused on Dr Dixon, but like I said before, I ( ... )
