2013 Fanart Meme

Shamelessly borrowed and modified from mugenmine. Yearly fannish retrospectives are fun and useful for looking at where we've been and where we're going, and this past year saw a huge shift in my arting that was beyond my wildest imagination. I hope 2013 is just as surprising and interesting. I also really want to improve.

Why thank you. And I'm enjoying your icon.

I blame him, too. For...I don't even know what. I just thought I'd blame him a bit. He's making some sort of sassy retort.

Pennswoods, what kind of art training do you have? I've always meant to ask you that. Ever since -- Infinitus, I think -- when I saw your tea towels that you stenciled with two-toned, shaded captions.

My art/craft schedule (quilting, yay!) is getting in the way of my doing other art. I just want to make stuff! And am so happy to be quilting again.

He is such a trouble-maker!

I have had more acting training than art training. :P Although that might not be entirely true. I went to a summer art class when I was in elementary school one year. I don't know where I picked up on the two-tone shaded lettering, but that's something I've done for a good long time when making signs and doing hand lettering.

It's so exciting that you're so busy crafting/quilting! Do you have fandom goals for your art this year?

I find it frankly amazing that you've gotten to this level with no training except when you were a kid. I was about to hold back on a suggestion for you to take some art instruction because of your busy schedule -- I imagine you've just gotten another load dumped on you -- but then again, when it's something you're dying to do all the time anyway, maybe it wouldn't be a hardship, perhaps after you finish out this semester.

I hadn't thought about my crafts in terms of fandom goals, but then I realized I want to back and quilt the OT3 tops I made last year and I want to do a bunch of Cabin Pressure pottery. Most of my fandom goals this year are for writing meta, and the quilting goals are mostly non-fannish.

I think a good class would be a tremendous help and I really should look into it. I've got a mind to take a photography class, which I think could help in its own way with issues of composition and lighting. Sometimes I get so frustrated by what I cannot do, but at least it gives me something to continue to strive for.

You mean you don't have a fandom goal to knit more TARDIS socks or to come up with a clever pair of mittens that reflect people's OTPs? I don't know why I haven't posted the OTP mittens on Tumblr yet. OTP mittens seem like the greatest and most clever thing!

I hadn't seen a lot of your art because I only friended you a few months ago, so I'm loving a chance to catch up.

I blame Ben too. Just in general. For everything.

ETA: I keep forgetting that I have a Sherlock icon now. Heh.

I am admiring your smokin' icon. I think that these year end retrospectives are a nice way to share stuff with people that they may have missed. I know I miss a lot on my flist during busier parts of the year.

This is great! It's really cool to an art perspective on this meme. It's really not all that different, is it? :-D I'm happy you were consumed by Sherlock! The fandom can never have too many creative folks taking part in it :-) It's a win win! Good luck in all of your 2013 artistic goals! You can do it!

I love these year end retrospectives. It's fun to take a look back. Unfortunately, I think last year was the one year around here that I didn't do one and I do regret it.

And thanks for the good luck wishes. I'm determined that 2013 is going to be especially awesome!
