Title: De principibus
Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Severus Snape
Rating: G
Links: On Tumblr | On AO3 | On Deviantart
Notes: There are many parallels between these two singular characters, which are represented here textually and visually. A gift for drinkingcocoa, who loves these two as much as I do, and who identified the quotes from BBC Sherlock, the Harry ( Read more... )

The touch of light on Sherlock's lip.

The ginger underlying the dark brown of his hair!

The darker shadow under Snape's eye.

The way he's lurking a bit behind Sherlock, who's definitely more of an attention hog. But Sherlock's completely aware of him. The lurking is also my base fandom, the love of Snape that's the foundation for all my subsequent fangirling of anything.

I do love them. I really do.

Thank you. Thank goodness I still have some squeecraft projects left for you so I don't just sit here overwhelmed. I will have to check out the right kind of art advice to get it copied onto a dress.

I wonder what you'll make of it in person. Neither the photo nor the scan really capture the true colors or the shading. You're right about Sherlock being more about attention than Snape - he is a show-off. I wonder if that was why I put him in front.

And you've already given me SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. This is to thank you for the socks and hat and mittens and cup warmer and the jewelry and all the fun I had with you and the girls in Philly.

I wonder if fox might have some good advice. She's had some of her art printed on make-up bags. They're gorgeous.

And I just noticed a spelling error. Ugh! I sort of fixed it on the original but I don't think I want to rescan this again.

<3 Birds of a feather...ravens, all. And the texture of the clothing on both (cloak/coat) are amazing, your detail bleeds love of them.

Birds of a feather indeed. I love the parallels I see in these two. This was indeed a work of love.

Oh my lord, I loved watching your updates, but even though I knew what was coming, the final version takes my breath away. The quotes are beautifully integrated, and I love the way that their clothes and expressions are the armor they way to defend themselves from the world. That's something I hadn't noticed until I saw all the elements together. This is an absolute masterpiece of thoughtful composition, resonant text, and painstaking detail. I absolutely adore it, and Cocoa is such a lucky fangirl!

Oh thank you!

And armor is such a good metaphor. Both gird themselves with sharp words, fierce intelligence, impatience, and imposing outerwear.

Ye gods... I am actually filling up with tears over here. This is exquisite on so many levels. Your beautiful colors (the first thing I fell in love with about your art) are still there, but you've progressed leaps and bounds in other areas, including the delicious textures and compositions and including text to make a piece more profound. drinkingcocoa is exceptionally lucky (and well-deserving of this beauty, of course) to have this. <3

This squeezes my heart in such a good way, darlin. *sniffle*

It absolutely kills me that I STILL can't find the pieces I got from you for the Lubricus auction! *cries*

Awe, love. I'm so glad this piece moved you so. I wish I could scan the whole things so all the text was visible.

Oh no. I'm so sorry to hear about the missing at. I had no idea. But I also think I still owe you a piece. Didn't you win a commission piece in addition to the Baker Street Boys piece?

*nods* I did win a commission for a Snapey piece of art. And nothing has struck me yet for that. (Well, other than the SSHG wedding picture from PoH that we had already agreed I would pay you a commission for in the future--which the amount I paid for this auction win was less than the amount we agreed on for the commission, so I didn't want to do that and cheat you out of the agreed amount!) ;D

However, seeing your Sherlock/HP crossover stuff now, I'm wondering whether or not I might be able to convince you to more Sherlocky stuff... LOL

Of course, I also knew you were crazy busy, so the last thing I wanted to do was put something ELSE on your plate. *hugs*

Speaking of the missing art, do you still have any more prints of the stuff you had at the cons? So I can try to replace them at some point? (Of course, NOTHING will ever replace the original Baker Street Boys art that has gone missing. *sobs*)

Ah, yes. I do owe you that wedding picture. I'd be happy to do that as the piece even though the price is different. I have been incredibly lax, and you have been incredibly patient. But as you've also noticed, I've been on something of a Sherlock kick so if something Sherlocky would make you happy right now, I can do that. I'm so sorry for making you wait as I got all caught up in fangirling.

I may have additional prints but those are likely to be in storage. I can see if I can locate them or print out new ones from the digital files I have. I think there is a shop around the corner in Lund where I could do this, but I need to investigate.
