FWIW, I think it's easiest to get War and Peace read by bombing through it in, say, three days or fewer. If that's possible clearing-schedule-wise.

I tried that and crashed and burned on Prince Andrew's existential angst.
So I'm trying the other approach this time, with the added benefit of using my memory of the recent TV version to keep track of all the minor nobility and overall plot arcs.

I read War and Peace in three months, at the cost of reading no other books over that time. I think your plan sounds sensible!
