I have officially started packing. One box holds my old VHSs I can't seem to part with (nostalgia) and which are awaiting sisterly peer-review to see if they'll prove useful in future for the bambino. Another holds my favourite DVDs, VHS classics, guilty pleasures and collections like the complete Star Wars, all of the Matrix films (with display ( Read more... )

The eternal problem - pack the books by size / content (in which case one ends up with a lot of heavy reference books in a box together), or pack to distribute the weight a bit better (in which case one ends up with many many boxes).

It sounds like you're using bigger boxes than I usually use, which would make the weight problem Much Worse per box.

My sympathies. Try to hang onto the thought of how nice it'll be to get your own space while going through all this...

Addendum: try not to forget power strips, trash cans, extension cords (and trash bags, come to think of it). They're annoying when you don't have enough...

Good luck with packing and moving! It seems exciting. I hope your book boxes aren't too heavy. I've never moved, I've always lived in this house (since I was born... o_O), but I've heard that heavy book boxes are a bit of a nuisance.

Oh yes. Growing up, my parents were always so proud of my obsession with reading. They'd brag about it to their friends, how bright and intelligent and literate their little daughter was.

Then we moved to a new town, and suddenly all those books they lavished on me seemed like less of a good idea than they remembered.

Only it's so much worse now, because now I have my own money, and I can buy my own books, so there's no way to regulate the flow and my library just keeps growing and growing...

LOL!!! I wasn't supposed to buy any more books since a year ago or so, because I've been thinking of moving to another country and I don't think I'll be able to take them with me... And I've too many books that I haven't read. Dx But then I kept buying and buying and I don't know what I'll do with them once I actually move. D:
