Help me flist.
I'm not a sport type person. I'm really not. But lately, something's been niggling at me.
I've started watching football. Sort of.
And by that I mean proper football, with lean, fit men in shorts kicking a ball, you know, with their feet. Not padded-out rugby with simplified rules and a lot of standing around, watiting for burly men to

Red is my colour, too. I've got the pale skin and golden hair to pull it off. But sheffie's Mycroft is a Spurs fan and they're attractive, too. And they're named for a Shakespeare character. I mean, honestly.

Anyway, this is all preliminary stuff. I'll probably find loads of, you know, valid reasons after I actually start learning about and appreciating the sport.
...it's all moot in the end, though, because when all's said and done my team will always be the (entirely fictional) Swindon Town Swoodilipoopers.

But when I watched Man U v. Blackburn with my stepdad, I was floored by how kinetic football is compared to other sports, which can generally be summed up by: lots of standing around, followed by about fifteen seconds of frantic activity, then more standing around.
In football, though, any stillness seems to be grudgingly allotted only as an absolute necessity, and best done away with as quickly as possible. Even the refs are constantly moving, diving and zigging and zagging amongst the players just as feverishly as if they themselves had the ball. And the crowd NEVER stops cheering. There's no waiting quietly for something to happen because something is always happening.
The energy inherent in football is just what I always thought sport should be. It made me feel giddy to see it.

I say this entirely objectively, as a lifelong, occasionally rabid fan :D
I don't really know how one would go about choosing a team... I mean, I support Liverpool because everyone in my family does, and I was brought up to do so. It has next to nothing to do with how good or bad they currently are. Also Steven Gerrard. Not anything in particular about him, more just his general existence :)
I'm glad you're getting into football though, it's a gorgeous sport. Like any sport, I guess, if you get emotionally invested, it can be heartbreaking and amazing. F'r instance, I still can't talk about Istanbul 2005 without getting emotional.
Okay shutting up now before I get carried away with my football feelings.

But seriously, what I love about Arsenal is their vision, this ideal of playing flowing, attractive football true to the spirit of the game. And okay, perhaps that doesn't always win us the match (or make you feel much better if you lose, ha), but it is something I would appreciate even if I hadn't always supported them - in fact many neutrals do.
(Also - don't worry about liking teams from other countries; most people have a preference from each country, and it matters little as they very rarely meet)

Although I really do like the Spurs, so I think I'd make a bit of a crap Gooner. I just can't bring myself to dislike Tottenham Hotspur.

That is, if Liverpool don't do something rather awesome to woo me away.
I don't know, the Spurs are lovely, but I don't see myself in navy.(Even if it looks bloody fantastic on me)
