Would you be willing to share some info/advice about icon-making with a newbie? What program do you use to make them?

Sure! Though I'm probably not the most experienced person to ask.

I use Photoshop 7.0 for everything. My favorite tools are sharpen, the hue/saturation adjuster, and the polygonal lasso (or rectangular marquee, if I need a straight selection.)
