Publishing Shenanigans

Man, the last two days have been jam-packed. A short summary:

Yesterday morning, Megan McCain came to the office to sign copies of her picture book, My Dad, John McCain. We all dutifully traipsed up to the 17th floor conference room and feasted on the goodies. She was very sweet, and absurdly fidgety ( Read more... )

1. Ooooh! RenFaire in Tuxedo? Say hi to like EVERYONE for me!

2. Last week my company had 7 titles on the NYT bestseller list, which I think may have been a record for us. We didn't do anything cool though. :(

3. Oh honey, you are in the SLUMS of season 3. The Dalek two-parter is possibly the worst hour and a half of television I've ever seen -- mostly because it commits the crime of being SO FUCKING BORING. Trust me, push on through it. The rest of the disc is at least watchable, but once you get to the Human Nature/Family of Blood two-parter (and Blink!!!), everything will be okay again. I promise.

3a. Countrycide is a cool episode. Woohoo.

3. I am SO glad you told me that, because I was yawning through Daleks in Manhattan. Good to know it gets better. Right now, I could not be less interested. I'll push through...:feet dragging:

Oh, they're ridiculously bad. To the extent that usually, when I'm marathoning the show with people, I skip those episodes, tell them the basics (Daleks show up; stupid shit happens; the Doctor goes vaguely suicidal; Martha whines about unrequited love; there are pig-slaves wtf; everything works out in the end more or less), and move the hell on.

Seriously. Just read the summaries on Wikipedia or something.

Too late, just suffered through the second half. Wow, that was terrible. Seriously bad stuff. Crapola. Now I can haz the Lazarus Experiment? Is that one any better?

In other news, when are you back from Quebec? Are you going to be around Monday night? :ulterior motives:

1) Go you! Whooo!

2) Rumplestilskin retelling! WHOO!! *adds to shopping list*

3) SUSAN COOPER?!?! AAAAAUGH!!!! Envy!!!! SO MUCH ENVY!!!! Though meep, I'd go into complete fangirl mode upon meeting her, sort of a "I wrote my Master's dissertation on The Dark is Rising I hope you don't mind!" squeak. If you choose that one, please tell us about it afterwards!
