<3

I know I've been absent for a long time. I didn't know this was gonna happen. I don't fully know your feelings on the matter. But fact of the matter is, there's a new baby in the world, and that baby is related to one of my friends, so I expect pictures.

You're gonna be a great aunt. Day 1, and you're already baking cookies for him, albeit indirectly. ;)

At some point you just have to concede to pragmatism, you know? Take a step back, look at the world as it is, sigh a bit, then step right back in and do the best you can.

To quote the Greek stoic philosopher Epictetus, "Everything has two handles, the one by which it may be carried, the other by which it cannot. If your brother acts unjustly, don't lay hold on the action by the handle of his injustice, for by that it cannot be carried; but by the opposite, that he is your brother, that he was brought up with you; and thus you will lay hold on it, as it is to be carried." Also, "Men are disturbed, not by things, but by the principles and notions which they form concerning things."

Not to be too preachy, I guess, but these are maxims which have helped me. Best of luck.

I knew I saw you at Kroger! I just wasn't certain it was you (its been a while) so I didn't wave. You didn't look too happy either so I didn't risk waving at a possibly angry stranger.

Congradulations on aunthood!

i wish you had! it's been too long. but yes, i was pretty delirious, so it might not have even registered in my brain that anyone was waving, let alone you...

<3 thanks!

Having a nephew is cooler than I expected. I fully expect mine not to be a little bastard for a couple years more, so I'd say enjoy those first few. ;)

I can definitely say, through very, very real personal experience, that babies are awesome. They may poop, pee, or puke all over you for a little bit, but they are so innocent and new! I can't help but love them. During the first month or so they hardly do anything. After that though, when they start smiling, playing, jumping (like my son is doing right now), laughing, and babbling, they are irresistible. You know that your nephew is going to need a really good aunt as a role model (and someone to spoil the heck out of him :) and you are the just the one to do it. That's how I see it. You're gonna be an awesome aunt, don't worry. There's a reason you've been placed in that position for him, and it will all pay off.
