...and it's another pop-culture post

Forgot to mention - suffered through Terminator Salvation last week. What an utter pig of a movie. It's so piss-poor that I can't even be arsed to review it, apart from:

\When it comes to sci-fi movies, there is no such thing as Alien 3, there is no such thing as Star Trek: Nemesis, and now there is no such thing as Terminator Salvation. Nuff said ( Read more... )

We went to see Transformers last night. I expected nothing but a silly film much like the first and I wasn't disappointed. I like it. But I was looking for something that was pretty and I could leave my brain at the door.

Ah, but you might recall that I spat nails about the first Transformers fillum! I do love an occasional bit of plot?-what-plot? sheer brain candy, e.g. Wolverine, but see, there's daft and there's amusingly dumb and then there's condescendingly dumbed-down. I'd put the Transformers franchise in the last category :-(

~laughs~ And that brings it around in a circle for me, because one of the longest-serving robot-like young coders at the office is also called Trent and got tagged some while back by me with the sobriquet of The Trentinator. He may not have nine-inch nails but he has 36-inch hair :P

Nemesis was pretty disappointing. That whole clone storyline was just bizarre.

I hear Transformers 2 is pretty racist. My brother's succinct review of Transformer 2 was "Fuck you, Michael Bay." Ha.

I wanted to see Terminator Salvation, but I think I've missed it at the cinema... I was mostly going for the eye candy to be honest.

Re Terminator Salvation, there are some very good performances; it's just that the movie sucked like a sucky thing. It was an arrogant mishmash that stretched any suspenders of disbelief waaay beyond breaking point, and threw in canon references in unjustified places that for me gave it the same 'see, we have the rights so we can do anything and it's official, and oh yeah, you thick short-memory'd lot may have missed this and that famous iconic bit the last time around so here it is again' feel that made Superman Returns a stinking puddle of pus despite Brandon Routh's very creditable performance. Christian Bale is, well, Christian!Bale!, and Anton Yelchin as a younger Kyle Reese was excellent - but still, no way enough to save the movie :-S

Well, now I feel better for not spending $15 to go with friends who wanted to see it.

I like socialising, but we can pack a picnic and sit in a park for free. I don't want to pay money to sit in the dark and watch something I know I'm not going to like.
