Michael Cera DOES come across as "a little too whiny" most of the time, which is what kinda dragged this movie down for me. I read the comic book character as coming across as slightly more confident - to me, his regular faux pax pas (plural) coming from a sort of obnoxious ignorance towards social norms rather than bog-standard social awkwardness. Maybe I just read the comics wrong, but I definitely enjoyed that character in my head a LOT more than the one on screen. Like you said, most of the other characters were really well portrayed, but that just kinda makes it MORE of a pain in the arse that they got EVERYONE ELSE so right but not THE MAIN GUY!

Haha yeah I know exactly what you mean. The whole point of Scott's attitude is that he just doesn't give a crap due to still being depressed about his breakup with Envy so instead of just being whiny and socially awkward like every one of Cera's other roles he's supposed to be ignorant and laid back (and a little bit thick as well). It which makes it much more effective when he gets infatuated with Ramona and is forced to man-up!
