I know how hard it is to find participants, so I thought I'd post this here. A researcher at USyd is doing a study on the effects of genital image and body image on sexual functioning in womenSounds fascinating. Online survey, takes about 20 minutes. Follow the link above for more information ( Read more... )

I feel as though possibly the research is geared towards promoting genital cosmetic enhancement or advocating it as a solution to sexual issues. Not that it seems to push your answers in that direction but the last bit before you click submit finally says something about "what intervention may be required" in women's genital self-image. Not really a fan of that language.

I agree, and I didn't like the language of a couple of the questions.

I felt that the research would probably be aimed in the opposite direction, actually... towards helping women accept their genitals as they are. It seemed more that the increase in cosmetic surgery on genitals would have been the motivating factor behind the research.

But that could just be my interpretation. And yeah, 'intervention' is strange terminology to use, I agree.

You could maybe write to the researcher to express your concerns?

I think you're probably right about her intentions. The way the survey is structured seems to lead towards the opposite conclusion though! I will definitely email her as I'm sure she'd want to know if it comes across that way.

Yeah I didn't really understand some of the questions. Things like "how often are you sexually aroused?" with "All the time" ... Does it mean all the time all the time? or all the time when you're in a sexually charged setting? or all the time when you're having sex? Some of the questions were very badly worded :(
