It's past time I put up something about Turkey, as my year here is already coming to a close. It's a wonderful country full of hospitable people, great food, and phenomenal historical sites that are still largely undiscovered by Western tourists. Yes, I can see them all now, thank you! Wow, they're just amazing. I don't know what I thought Turkey looked like, but it wasn't this. These pictures just blew me away.

The thing is that Turkey's pretty big. I think it's about a thousand miles end-to-end, which in the US is the difference between the New Mexican desert and the Pacific Northwest, so there's plenty of room for climate variation.

You're certainly right, though, in that I never expected to see scenes like this when I arrived. Traveling from Ankara to the greener parts of the country is always a pleasant shock.

The point I'm trying to make here is that this place was breathtaking. Am I succeeding?

YES! Holy cupcakes, Sara! I am so jealous of everyone who has been traveling to beautiful places, and living vicariously through all the blogs and pictures until I can finally travel, too. :) When do you return Stateside?

Probably in early July, though I haven't bought my tickets yet. I'm applying for jobs all over the country, so I don't know where I'll be living, but in any case I do want to make the trip to Boston sometime soon, so hopefully we'll see each other eventually. :) Do you plan to be back in Madison at all this summer?

I'm stuck in Boston for pretty much the whole summer, so no Madison for me. :( Definitely let me know if you come to Boston, though, I'd love to see you!
