Wearing The Finest

So most people know my dad was a cop out of #12 in Detroit before he retired in 1996. In most pictures here on Facebook or Flickr you can see his gold shield around my neck. It has the Detroit Police crest and his badge number. I’ve been wearing it for years since I lifted it from my mother’s jewelry box.

Box chains are very strong. That's what my mum used for her favourite pendant. The down side was the pendant 'hole' where the chain passed through (being made out of white gold perhaps?) wore thin-to-breaking in a couple years from the edge rub from the box chain. I replaced with a smoother chain when I had the top repaired from the rub. So if your metal is soft I would just be away of possible future repairs.

I have a sterling silver beaded box chain from Sears that has a bit smoother edges than her chain, plus it rubs on a standard circle thingie. I've had it for ten years and no breakage. Though it is not worn everyday it has been worn the equivalent of years - maybe 5.
