Reason 15485 that I need to get out of the south

Aug 02, 2012 00:21

I try to tell myself that I can't let this kind of thing bother me.  I remind myself that I live in the South, and, as such, I should learn to expect bigotry and hate around me because when you're brought up listening to Mommy read the Bible, it takes a lot to change your mindset.  I know this because it's not as though I've always been as open- ( Read more... )

You have to get out of there. And, much as I love my own country, I am trying hard to give my children the best chances of doing the same: in Italy, even leftwing parties are against same sex marriage, preferring a vague "legal recognition" of their relationship. Adoption for gay people (or non married people) isn't even mentioned, because Think Of The Children.

In the meantime, I read over at Dan Savage the proposal to reinterpret Chick-fil-A as a version of pegging, which at least is fun :).

ETA: your friend may want consider the way that company treats women. Yet another example of how sexism and homophobia go hand-in-hand.

OMG. That shit was whacked, yo! I was so angry when this happened but then guess what?

As I was driving past Chik-Fil-A near my house, there was a LARGE of gay couples and protesters at the corner talking about love and being awesome!

It gave me a little hope. :D

As someone born in Oklahoma, I understand.

My family moved to California when I was 9 so I was lucky to only have to deal with the family racism a few times a year.

My mom and stepdad retired to OK 10 years ago and when she had her second bypass surgery I moved back there to help out. (Once we knew she was going to be ok I couldn’t move back to Ca fast enough). I had never met people who were so nice about their bigotry and racism. It was crazy they way they seemed to take saving my soul as a personal mission.

And we have Chick-A-Flik here too. I have NEVER gone there. I don’t shop at Hobby Lobby either. They believe that their freedom and liberty can only be obtained by denying me mine.

I really hope life is awesome for you now.
