I've had a few people look at the firearms I use in Special Projects , and make a few assumptions based on that. So I thought it was time that I clear a couple of things up.

Dean: My gun doesn’t jam. - Bad Day at Black Rock.
It’s established on the season 2 DVD that both boys have a favorite gun. (via the interview with the props master).
Dean’s favorite gun is a Colt M1911A1 with an engraved barrel and mother of pearl grips.
The finish is stainless steel. It is a .45 caliber standard with 7-round magazine capacity.
The gun was a popular military side arm through the mid-80’s.
Since it’s a bit flashy, with the stainless finish, the engraving and the mother of pearl grip, I would say that the gun is a little bit indicative of Dean’s tastes. (Dean likes shiny things)
Sam has a favorite gun too. Although it’s first seen as one that Dean carries around, it’s adopted by Sam after Bloodlust. (this is the gun that Max Miller almost shoots Dean in the head with.)
It’s a 9mm Taurus model 92 standard with a 10-round magazine. It has a stainless steel finish and mother of pearl grips. The particular model is very close to a Beretta. Possibly because it was manufactured in a former Beretta factory.
It’s important to note here that Dean initially carries this gun. And it’s only later that Sam adopts it. Asthetically, it looks a lot like the .45 cal colt. (Mother of pearl handles, stainless finish. )
The boys also have an assortment of other guns in the trunk of the impala.
Now let's talk about Chloe. Here we're getting out of canon, and strait into my imagination.
Chloe originally carries two weapons. A Desert Eagle, and a .22 caliber handgun, which she keeps strapped to her ankle as a ‘hold out’ weapon.
The Desert Eagle is notable because it is a large-caliber, gas powered (as opposed to short-recoil like the guns the boys favor) semi-automatic pistol.
Chloe’s particular model shot .357 Magnum rounds.
The pistol Chloe keeps strapped to her ankle is a .22 caliber of no specific make.
.22 are noted primarily for target shooting, or hunting small vermin. .22 rifles are what my dad would call a ‘squirrel rifle’ because that’s all you hunted with them. It’s a very popular small shell. At close range, it’s still lethal. Chloe primarily chose it as her weapon of last resort.
She loses her Desert Eagle in a lake while hunting a Kelpie, and Dean replaces it with a .45 caliber pistol, most likely a WWI-era remington, which was known to have a shorter grip, and is more comfortable in her smaller hands.
FYI, neither of the boys would want to use this gun, because the short grip, combined with the short safty spur would likely lead to a nasty case of hammer-bite. (that's when the webbing of your hand gets caught in between the hammer and the gun. )
In the future, Chloe may decide to replace her .22 pistol with a higher caliber weapon. Possibly a snub-nosed .38 revolver. These are sometimes known as 'detective's specials.'
A final word about guns. Chloe shows a lot more gun safety than the Winchester boys do. (with the possible exception of having the sense to maintain her firearms. Dean’s had a word with her about that. ) When they aren’t in use, she keeps her weapons holstered.
By contrast, Sam and Dean tuck them in their pants, keep them in jacket pockets, leave them lying around, etc. etc. etc. This is not safe. Don’t try this at home, kids. Unless your name is Winchester, and you cut your teeth on a spent .45 shell.
Now a word about caliber. I’ve thrown a lot of numbers around: .22, .38, .45, .357 magnum. All you need to know is that the number is indicative of the size of the gun’s barrel.
.22 is smaller. 9mm=.38=.357 magnum (not always exactly but close enough), .45 is a lot bigger.
In the lineup above, the bullet on the far left is a .22 The tall one in the middle is a .357 Magnum. And the one on the far right is a .45
And a final note. You can keep Dean's amulet and his ring. But I can haz his gun? Kplsthanx!
