Goosebumps, you gave me goosebumps.

I love this, it is perfect and chilling and exactly right for both worlds. Poor Ellen.

I really hope to see more of Ellen in Season 3. It was kind of nice to have a strong female character in the show. Particuarly since the actress did such a good job of making Ellen feel real.

Beautiful. Ellen being maternal in spite of herself here is just perfect - the fact that the maternal impulse is held internally also perfect. I'm sure Ellen learned that restraint the hard way.

The Chloe/Clark/Kal scenario is great too...Chloe the hunter.

Great fic. :)

This fic was more about the parallels between hunter and hero. Because once you take away the ectoplasm and the meteor rocks, there's a lot that is similar about it.

Chloe's not really a hunter. She dosen't even know what being a hunter is. She's never seen a black dog, or a demon. But at the same time, she does know quite a bit about saving people and hunting things.

I realize Chloe isn't really a hunter. She used herself the way a hunter might - like Jo did, actually early in SPN season two - to get Clark/Kal where she could help him.

I figured you picked up on that. I'm just obsessively wordy, and I like to over-explain things a bit. :)

Pay no attention to that woman behind the curtan

Loved it. The way Ellen recognizes the hunter in Chloe immediately, the chilling confrontation with Kal, the weary price she still pays.

Very nice.

Thanks! In a lot of ways, this fic is about falling out of love. I think that Chloe will always be friends with clark. And some small part of her that will always be fifteen will always wonder what if. But the adult in her realizes that there is a big difference between loving someone and being in love with them.

In love only lasts so long under the kind of stresses that Clark continually puts their relationship through. Sooner or later, a person gets tired of running halfway to Canada thanks to a red meteor rock.

hair like the blackened flames of hell itself.
great line. When Clark finally showed it gave me chills. I love dangerous/red krypto Clark.
I like the contrast you capture between Jo and Chloe

Thanks! the main difference I saw between jo and Chloe is maturity. I don't feel like Chloe had a lot of adult supervision growing up. Her mom split, and I kind of get the feelign that Gabe (wonderful, dopey father that he was) just wasn't around that much. (Chloe had a huge ammount of freedom for a fifteen year old back at the beginning of S1 Smallville).

Jo otoh, had a whole bar full of hunter uncles to teach her how to fight, and then keep her from ever going hunting. And Ellen kind of kept her wrapped up in gauze in the name of protecting her.

Since kids tend to mature at the level they're challenged, I figured the difference between the girls would be directly related to their circumstances.

Sooner or later, I plan to write an older, more mature Jo into this series.
