It seems that after announcing that they were going to introduce Chloe into superman comics in December,  Now, DC says not so much.  Apparantly this comes after negative backlash from smallville fans who were upset that the Chloe that they were scripting was characterized nothing like the Chloe we know from the show, but was instead going to be a ( Read more... )

I've had mixed feelings about Chloe entering the comics. While I can understand negative fan reaction to it, I totally get how her introduction into the comics cements her role in the DC universe. I agree completely with your assessment of Chloe's role on SV, as well as the dreck being put out by the show recently. Perhaps DC simply needs to re-think exactly how they will portray her in the comics? Is there a way to make her more "Chloe like" without stepping on DCLois' toes? Part of me is glad they are not including her at this time, because I really don't think they thought it out well enough. I still think she can be included at some point, just in a different manner.

I agree. But they bought the rights to her character several years ago. The fact that they haven't introduced her before now tells me that they've been scratching their heads over this for a while.

And with this possibly being SV's last season -- and the writer's strike holding things up, I feel like if they don't add her now, they may never.

Of course, they could take a page from Marvel's book, and if she's *that* popular a character, set her in an alternate universe.

They could do that now. Seeing as they've basically retconned Crisis on infinite earths to allow for mulitple universes again.

I don't feel that if they've been waiting this long, they'll totally abandon the idea. They just have to try something different. I know she can't be Lois because that's Lois's job in the comics, but making her so much younger was probably a mistake. People saw a Cousin Oliver type deal coming and they were upset. I just don't believe this is the end of comics!Chloe.

They're already sorta doing a cousin oliver type-thing: Lois and Clark have adopted Zod's son, and are rasing the kid as their own.

But just because they aren't doing it now doesn't mean they still don't own the rights and might not do it later, right? Who knows what'll happen. I always figured it would be easier to introduce her after Smallville ends, but whatever. I can't believe they'd buy her and hold onto her character and then never use her ever. I assume they'll wait and try again in a way that won't cause the backlash. I want her in the comics, I just wasn't thrilled with the girl!Jimmy angle they had worked up for her.

If you leave SV, is there still Chlean. You must give me chlean fixes because now I'm an addict.

I did say that I was taking my fictives with me.

And hey, since a DCU imprint is doing SPN comics, I'm holding out hope that sometime in the future, comic book!Sam and Dean might run into a short, saracstic blonde reporter with a bent toward the strange and unusual.

It could happen.

Chloe as a canon character would have been brilliant. Who really cares sh was going to be younger than Clark. She would have been part of the superman mythology!!!
Gah!

That's how I felt about it. But then again, I've stopped reading comics over the years because at times they've also fallen prey to trying shameless stunts for readership.

I really have a love/hate relationship for things like that, I guess.

That is truly sad that DC bowed to that pressure. I agree that as long as she shows up in one comic she is forever part of DCU canon.

Hell look at Donna Troy - they have no idea what to do with that character but at least she exists until they do. And while I'd hate to see Chloe jerked around that way at least she's be "real" in the comics.

I always felt they made a mistake introducing Lois in SV. I thought that Chloe should just become Lois - hell she used the name once on a by line.

Lois has become the SV superhero girlfriend and a real ditz. I can just see that conversation after she marries Clark. Ollie and AC and Clark discussing Lois - not awkward at all.

trithfully, your Chlean fic feels more like canon than some of the crap they are throwing out on SV. And yet i still watch - what is wrong with me?

The Superman Mythos is kind of formulistic. Superhero + snoopy girl sidekick who makes trouble for him. In Superman that person is lois. Back when they did Superboy, that was the whole reason for introducing Lana originally. They had to change Lana to shoehorn her into Superman after that.

And since they didn't want Lana filling that position on Smallville, they had to invent a new sidekick role. So hence, Chloe. *then* when the brougth in ED Lois, they were at a loss for what to do with her, because they had the sidekick role filled in Chloe, and they had the love interest filled in Lana.

So yeah, I think I'm repeating myself. Same rant, different day.

I can understand what they tried to do, but I think it was a tiny bit too much. I don't care so much, because I don't read comics. It probably would have been better if they had Clark and Chloe at least be familiar with each other. At least that's what I think.

From what I understand, she was to be lois's much-younger cousin, and the younger sister to one of Clark's classmates.

And they said she was to play a vital role. Something about bringing something to the comics that was missing. I have no idea what. Most fans seemed to peg her as being a Girl!Jimmy.

I didn't quite see that. In my mind she would've been chloe of the early seasons. Still herself, just ignorant of Clark's powers. And keeping her younger would've kept the writers from creating another *bleah* love triangle between Lois, Clark, and a girl from Clark's past.
