I love your description of Taos and it's "enforced artistic." I really do despise places and people who try to be artsy. It kinda ruins the point.

In a way, Eureka Springs, near where I live, is a lot like that. They've been this funky little liberal community set right in the heart of the bible belt, and kind of isolated from it by the Ozark Mountains.

But somewhere along the way, they went commercial, and then they tried to hold onto the image through the iron-fisted rule of the Chamber of Commerce.

Fun place to visit, but there is no way I would want to get involved in local politics.

I was a bit snarky toward the whole "vampire literary genre" wasn't I?

Can't help it. The only book I've ever thrown across the room in a fit of disgust was Anne rice. I liked her books when I was sixteen. But then I started writing as a craft, and it took a lot of enjoyment out of reading when I realized that she had no ear for dialog.
