Apparently? There was a commercial that aired several times during the Super Bowl (a CTV commercial; not a real, American Super Bowl commercial--even after all these years, I'm still bitter about being forced to watch CTV commercials during the Super Bowl) that most definitely included Victor Garber on Flashpoint. It did not indicate whether this was a usual thing or a one-off, but he seemed fairly well-integrated, and they weren't doing a "special guest star" thing. I have no idea, though, since I haven't watched that show in quite some time.
Actually, it is on his imdb page, but a little further down than one would think. Apparently he was in the episode "Fault Lines" that aired on September 3. But this commercial was for the ep that I believe was airing on CTV after the Super Bowl, so perhaps he's reprising that character (which would account for why they were treating him familiarly in the commercial). And imdb doesn't seem to have much info about the later eps of the season.
I do not have time to comment with any coherence, but I have to say, the idea of a Balanced Scorecard in an academic setting makes my head spin. Just, what crazy person thought that would make sense?
It also irks me that management consulting is one of the frequently-mentioned alternative PhD careers, because those firms do hire people with PhDs and no MBAs, at least some of the time. And it's all well and good for businesses--which should, of course, be run like businesses--but it's also hard not to feel like it's a bit of a sleeping with the enemy kind of gig, at least as concerns the reasons that some of those PhDs got out of academia in the first place.
Possibly not starring to your standards, but I'm fairly sure she's got top billing and is the character with the most agency so far. The premise is that she's just been promoted to top cop in the city, and she's setting out to take down a corrupt alderman. But her right-hand man in this is her former partner, and I suspect story time will be split between them. So far I'm liking him and their relationship because he clearly thinks she's brilliant and amazing. I suspect they will be the primary fannish ship, if there's a fandom, but I'm not sure whether the show is likely to go there with it. They've got good chemistry, but he's in a relationship, and she's his boss, and...we'll see. I have no opinion one way or the other yet, as far as that goes.
But it is going to be an ensemble show, and at this point it's anyone's guess as to how this will all play out. I am willing to keep you posted, though, if you're wary of putting time into it yourself.
Will do. Though I was rather disheartened to see the Fox website billing it as a show that "centers around" the [white, male] former partner, rather than around Beals's character. Because that's not at all the impression I got from the pilot, or from some of the promo pictures (which have her front and center and him sort of in the background with some other people), etc. And now I'm less sure about the billing order--will pay particular attention next week. But the proof will be in the pudding, I guess.
