Irina Derevko Fic Recs (with bonus Jack Bristow)

I think I promised recs and musings on Irina and Jack/Irina, but you'll have to content yourself at present with recs (which have taken enough time on their own, since I'm one of those people who has to read ALL THE STORIES before I feel like I can make a recs post).

Let's start with some gen Irina-focused stories:

I'm not sure how you'll feel about Yahtzee. I really do like the way she writes the two of them--unable to get out of each other's orbits, no matter how hard they might want to, yet also unable to resolve all their issues. I think the thing I find most compelling about the two of them is the fact that no matter how much they hate each other, they love each other at least as much (the scene in your icon notwithstanding), but that love doesn't do them much good; it's a nice subversion of the whole "love conquers all" thing. I do see her stories as dealing pretty well with both sides of the coin. But they're also long, plotty stories that are also about Rimbaldi and other characters and seasons I haven't seen, etc., and I'm not sure I would have gotten quite as into them as I did had I not spent the past however many weeks feeling too ill to want to do much besides sit in front of the computer. (On the other hand, I do sometimes go through phases where I want plotty fic, regardless

Aw, you are so awesome for the Irina recs!!

Even though, I have new things to *flail* about, I'm still terribly intrigued by Irina. And while I have my own general sense of who she is, it is always interesting to read others' interpretations and how their interpretations affect your own personal canon about a character.

Yay! I'm glad you appreciate them! I had a lot of fun reading through how different people see her. Soon I suspect I'll try to write her, myself, and hopefully that will help me get my own sense of her down a little more solidly (because I feel like I don't completely recognize my vision of her in any of these stories; there are a lot I like quite a bit, but nothing that makes me go "yes, that exactly!").

-i HAVE to rec this. i read Irenicon and Wrong one after another over at sd1 a long time ago, and i liked them both so much that when i went to look for them much much later, in my mind, i had combined both's plots into one super MegaFic and wondered why i couldnt find it. so, yeah.

***note-both are here on lj, but Wrong only goes up to like, chapter 100-something but she posted the rest on sd1. so i really hope you have an sd1 account, unlike me. they used to be open to anyone and i took that for granted. :(***
