Fic: Five Things for TSCC and Lie to Me

May 24, 2010 20:29

The other day I asked for drabble and five things prompts. Here are the first two (though I should try not to get quite so carried away with the others or I'll never finish...):

For chaila43: Five Times James Ellison Didn't Feel Like a Father

assume spoilers for the whole series )

lie to me, tscc, fic, tscc fic, lie to me fic

And you did it! \0/ I read this last night, very late, loved it then, and love it even more now. I am in envy, how your voices are spot-on. I love that they do bond over the years over their shared interests (except Cal, heh), how they come to an understanding. Zoe's thoughts on her impending death, how she sees Gillian, are just beautiful and heartrending.

"I confess I never did learn to like you very much-" Gillian's laugh interrupted "-but we have been family all these years whether we liked it or not."

"Yes," answered Gillian. "Yes, we have been."

THIS. And you've developed this beautifully with your snippets. Just gorgeous. Thank you! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Thank you so much! For the comment and for the lovely rec! And perhaps most of all, for the prompt in the first place! :)

It was a good challenge thinking of them apart from Cal, who really is what they share, primarily. I think, though, that they'd be rather unlikely to talk about him with each other anyway: perhaps there would have been some snippy conversations about him in the immediate post-divorce years, and then again by the end of their lives when past hurts and jealousies were well buried, but mostly I think they'd spend 40 years talking around him anyway. And I'm not sure I would have thought about it quite like that if you hadn't given me this challenge--so thank you!

I really loved your take on Zoe and Gillian. Well written gen fic like this is rare. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much! And yes, I do wish there were more gen fic in this fandom (as well as in general). I'm quite fond of Cal/Gillian, to be sure, but I suspect that all of these characters have so many stories to them that people aren't telling because they're not stories about the pairing.

I just wanted to note my surpassing love for this detail. <3That was specifically for you! :D And also because in my puzzling about what would have happened next with them, I like the idea that the Dysons become involved again--perhaps specifically with Terissa as an intermediary between their lives in hiding and the "real" world ( ... )

Oh, how I wish your utopia season 3 were a reality!!!!

in believing that she's the one who can stop them, because it just HAS to be true, there's no other option

Hmm. I might have to ruminate on this and get back to you after I've finished rewatching season 2 (which is going slowly because coordinating my schedule with R.'s is more difficult than one might think). It takes him kind of a long time to involve himself with her, after all; even before they run into each other again and she gives him the cold shoulder, he's already working for Weaver, thinking he's working toward the same goal from a different angle. Perhaps part of Ellison's story is not what he does with his faith in Sarah but how he comes to acquire that faith--I suspect it's a much longer process than I had originally thought, and that it takes him pretty much the entire series.

We should meta this show more often.Yes! I'm really JUST NOW feeling capable of meta again after the brain-frying of the past few months. It's fun! I missed this! I wish I were rewatching ( ... )
