This is depressing reading: The Decline of the English Department. I don't agree with everything he says, by a long shot, but he's right on in a lot of ways, and, well, it's depressing. This bit hits particularly close to home:

Are you going to watch SGU? I know you didn't like SGA so I wondered if you're going to give the new kid a try.

Fairly certain I will not be tuning in to SGU. There's very little about the premise that appeals to me, and the more info that's come out about it, the less interested I've become. I got so disenchanted with the direction they took SGA, and much of what I'm hearing about SGU seems to be in the same vein (if reports are to be believed, we've already got a "haha, isn't rape funny!" plot right off the bat--yuck!).

So no, probably not. I will pay attention to what people are saying about it, and if I hear from people who have similar taste to mine that it's worth checking out, I'd be willing to give it a chance, but I think this is one I'm going to need vetted for me before going in on my own.

There's also the time factor--I really don't have time to be watching the three shows I'm planning to watch this season (and four, once Friday Night Lights comes back), so adding even a show I was really enthusiastic about would be a stretch.
