We watched the first episode of B5 season five. Thanks to Dragon*Con and Dante's Cove, Tracy Scoggins will never not make me double over in laughter. Apparently, though, she was also awful once upon a time on Lois and Clark, so R. was laughing, too ( Read more... )

Aww, you watched dS! (It may well not be for you. Frankly, I was shocked that danceswithwords got into it, though I was thrilled that she did.) I think they are supposed to be Toronto, at the end of the pilot. As to why they're in Toronto... uh... jurisdictional thing? Toronto is close to Chicago, yet still in Canada? And the arrest was a joint effort between the Chicago PD and the RCMP, so they split the difference? I got nothin'. :)

Oh, Tracy Scoggins. *shakes head bemusedly*

Oh, Tracy Scoggins, indeed!

And we'll see about dS. I'll give it a shot, anyway, if for no other reason than to have some idea what y'all are talking about (and so that I can read danceswithwords's recaps; that's a solid motivating factor in my world!).

Wait. Milk comes in bags? Seriously? But . . . can you drink it straight from the bag? Because the main advantage of a carton is that you can drink straight from the carton.

*nods sagely*

Yup! When you buy milk by the gallon it comes in these three small bags (inside a bigger bag for packaging), and you also buy this reusable milk pitcher, into which the bags fit. You snip off the corner, and voila! It's very green. But also very strange!

And no, you can't drink straight from the bag--or at least not with much ease, I'd think. I haven't tried. You're welcome to give it a go when you come, as long as you promise to clean up after the attempt! ;)

I may have to give that a shot. Stories to tell the kids and all. "...and then I dumped a gallon of milk over my head!" :D

There are female characters in Due South eventually... Benton gets a female boss who is awesome, and Ray's sister is in it a lot. She rocks.

I didn't even know milk-in-plastic-bags was a Canadian thing, heh! We're so inventive. ;)

Definitely a Canadian thing! Or at least not an American thing. (I'm not sure what they do in other parts of the world.) In the States you buy gallons of milk in these big plastic jugs. They are recyclable, but not as green as the bags--I'm still a bit weirded out by the bags, but they are more environmentally friendly, to be sure.

And I'll give Due South a shot, anyway! We'll see if there are enough women to keep my interest. :)

Er, I usually only go to the Easter Vigil and not on Easter itself. The Easter services are so full of random people who only go on Easter that the regulars go to the Vigil instead. [ETA: Not that we have anything against random people who show up for Easter. It's just that we like to be able to have a seat.] We even have a party afterwards (from 11-midnight!). Plus, I like the Vigil, even though it's still sort of disconcerting to celebrate Easter early. But I like the transition.

But this means I'm sort of screwed on the basketball front, doesn't it (unless the second-round game is earlier in the day; obviously I haven't really looked at a schedule yet). I have a long list of things I hate about Holy Week falling so early this year, but this takes the cake!

And I've always called it Maundy Thursday, even when I was a Methodist. Do you know people from liturgical denominations who don't call it that, or just non-liturgical evangelicals who wouldn't know a church calendar if it hit them over the head?

Methodists really run the gambit in terms of liturgy. Some Methodists are practically Anglicans, and others are practically non-liturgical evangelicals who wouldn't know a church calendar if it hit them over the head. My own background was somewhere in the middle, tending toward the latter, but with enough of the former that I was aware of the church calendar.

And yes, Maundy Thursday altar-stripping!!! My favorite religious moment of the entire year. And in my present church, the lights stay out, and there's a garden watch afterwards for at least an hour and sometimes longer than that. The service ends and the altar is stripped and the bells sound, and everyone just sits there in the dark in silence for the next hour. That's why this service is a high priority for me.

Um, I'm pretty sure I was among those who persuaded you to watch Slings and Arrows in the first place! :D So yes, really freaky and completely awesome Canadian show!

I haven't seen ReGenesis, though. I like the idea of Toronto masquerading as Toronto, in fact!
