WTF SEC Tournament?!?!?

First, a public service announcement for anyone who is new in the past year or so: It's March. In March I have a tendency to post a lot about NCAA men's basketball. I usually post a fair bit about it throughout the season, but my team has been sort of trauma-inducing this season, so I've found it's better not to think too much about it. But March ( Read more... )

Basketball is not really a sport designed for double-headers. You can have a double-header in baseball in which none of the same pitchers from the first game play in the second because of the way baseball rosters are done, whereas in basketball, there are really only a dozen or so guys who are going to see action. They're going to be exhausted.

And apparently there are more severe storms scheduled for today!

And sure, I'd be interested in playing in y'all's game again, if nobody minds. I'm not sure it will end up with me gloating this year, though; I've been following the SEC somewhat (and think that Tennessee is entirely overrated), but not so much the rest of the country, so I have a feeling my bracket will be even more guesswork than usual this year.

Oh no! What rotten luck for Kentucky! I do hope they can pull out a win. (Make that wins!)

Illinois plays Minnesota today in the semi-finals for the Big Ten tournament. The only way they're getting to the Big Dance is if they win the conference title. I thought this was a long shot, but so far they're still in the running.

*crosses fingers for our teams*

And there was no winning. :(

Our potential tournament berth remains sketchy. I'm really not used to this!!! Although given the way our season started, we're doing better than we might have.

Well, we just lost to Georgia, so all is still up in the air about the Big Dance.

And yeah, I saw a headline recently: "Never have so many Wildcat fans been so worried about tournament berths." Because between the Kentucky Wildcats and the Arizona Wildcats it's pretty much been a given for a very long time. Craziness, I say!!!

Now, I don't know a lot about basketball, but it strikes me as very badly suited for doubleheaders. All that running around! So my fingers are very much crossed for Kentucky today!

Indeed. We lost to Georgia in overtime, and if Georgia manages to pull it out to beat Mississippi State tonight after all that, it really will be a thing to behold. I'm finding the whole thing incredibly depressing, but there's not much you can do in the fact of tornadoes. (And hey, at least we've got an excuse?)

The TV announcers seemed to think the Ky *would* get in, so let's hope they're right. I at least have one team in -- Austin Peay won the OVC so they're in, and hopefully will get a 12 or 13 seed for a change.

I think in my library newsletter I'll send out Monday, I'll congratulate all the TN schools that got in -- there's a bunch!

When they beat Florida everyone was all, "oh, now they'll get in!" And then somewhere in the intervening week it became, "they'll definitely get in if they do well in the SEC tournament." And none of it has actually been on a channel I get, so I've only been reading, and it's frustrating! I'm trying not to fret too much. What will be will be!

And yes, lots of Tennessee schools! My Tennessee school of choice, I think, will be Memphis. I might like them for the whole shebang; I haven't decided yet--and it will depend on how the brackets get set up, anyway. I think U Tennessee is way overrated, but that may also be my bias talking because I hate them!!!! I'm also really irritated that they're the only SEC team with realistic championship hopes, I think. Vandy can be fabulous, but they're also sort of inconsistent. Ordinarily I'd be cheering for Vandy, since they're an SEC team I do not hate, but I really haven't forgiven them for the Game that Shall Not Be Named a few weeks back.
