I've been rather ill this weekend (throat thing getting worse) and have consequently spent more time than usual watching TV ( Read more... )

There is only one thing I hate more than sore throats, but I'll refrain from mentioning that. Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the well-wishes!

It's actually not a sore throat per se; I've had a strange swelling/lump in my throat for a while, and lately I've gone all hoarse with swollen lymph nodes. I've got an appointment with a specialist in two weeks, but I think after this weekend I'm going to try everything in my power to get into some doctor early this week. Ugh! Not fun at all!

*sends hugs, tea, and getting better vibes*

Yeah, I've never quite understood the zeal for Firefly. It's fun, pretty, and a perfectly amusing way to pass the time, but nothing hugely special. Gotta say, though, that sparkly dialogue is more than enough sometimes. Kaylee has the line of the series.

As for spending a day watching 'shippy vids or highlights? It's the visual equivalent of spending the day reading schmoopy fic, only often slightly *better* because it's real (in, er, some sense of the word). Mmm. Schmoopy fic. :)

Thank you, my dear. *hugs back*

And that dialogue is awfully sparkly, yes. I just don't see the driving purpose of the show. But I don't know that I need it to have one, for my entertainment purposes. I have other shows with driving purposes. :)

Mmm, schmoopy fic, indeed!

To be honest, I'm not looking for a new fandom right now (or if I am, that fandom's going to be Babylon 5), and I'm just as glad not to be falling for Firefly. It's serving the purpose I want it to serve, and that's fine. I think I had been expecting something different, though, given the general level of enthusiasm--it's a little hard for me to see why people were so head over heels for it. But we've all got different tastes (and sometimes different tastes at different times).

Kudo's on attempting to catch up with firefly, its a pretty awesome show!!!!! Not that any of my friends would agree with me, but then again none of them are really into sci-fi , which to me is a little weird..
Thought i'd weigh in on the OTP situation, while Scully and Mulder are a truly awesome ship, I'd have to say that Aeryn and John definalty wins, for me anywayz.. I am yet to find a ship that'll beat them outta first place!!!! XD

Firefly doesn't feel like "sci-fi" to me in the least. I think I prefer the term "space opera" for it, as well as shows like Farscape and Babylon 5. They happen to take place in space, but they're not about that.

And as for Mulder/Scully or John/Aeryn, it's kind of like comparing apples and oranges, I think. They're such different kinds of relationships. I think at the end of the day that John/Aeryn does win for me, for many reasons, but I'll always hold a torch for good old MSR!

Yeah babylon 5 and farscape are a little more drama than anything else, maybe with some action chucked in for good measure..
The occasional sci-fi element will pop up here and ther, like the oculars but other than that i guess it is mostly drama

The only reason I watched Firefly is because they'd actually bothered to show it on TV here. (not sure why since there was only one season of it) I'd heard people talking about it on the net and since it was only 1 season long I figured I could just as well watch it.

And while Firefly is only so and so - it's good, but not really spectacular - the movie Serenity *is* really good and spectacular. Totally makes up for Firefly.

I actually saw Serenity when it came out. Everyone was so enthusiastic about it, so I couldn't not, even though I hadn't seen the series. And I did enjoy it, though I think I'll enjoy it more when I re-watch it after having seen the series.

I am enjoying Firefly, but I think I was expecting something rather more spectacular, from the way so many people are so obsessed with it.
