Vegetable interlude

Sometimes it amazes me that civilization doesn't come tottering to a halt due to man's inability to communicate with fellow man. Today I went into Dunharrow to return something to Debenhams and pick up some leeks to make cock-a-leekie soup for dinner. No, this one was definitely homegrown! What one tends to find in this part of London is that the white immigrants (Eastern Europeans) speak if anything *more* intelligible English than many of the natives. (To me, anyway.)

It is entirely possible that I was undercharged, depending on the reason for Lad's difficulty identifying leeks. Also one of the leeks was a weedy affair, resembling an overgrown spring onion.

I think I paid £1.80 for 3 leeks in the Co-op last week, which is irritating when you have to chuck so much of them away. They were nice fat ones, but I don't understand why they are so much more expensive than, say, onions.
