hate to break it to you, but you only need to sat2's. cause we take the new sat, and writing is included, colleges only require 2. also, i think that you could probably do sat2's standby in november, and be done by 12 at the lastest, cause you'd only be taking 2. i dunno, i wouldn't really want to eliminate colleges just becasue they require a couple extra tests, but that's just me. As long as your completely happy with the colleges that don't require them, that I guess I would say go to your conventions. Also, just a note, your 4 IB scores will do nothing for you apps, cause they're this spring (my new AP's don't and it's upsetting).
Just my thoughts, kinda random and badly organized, but still. hope it helps!!! i know what debating college choices is like, hope you get it figured out, good luck :)
good point aobut standby in november... i still might. i need to look into that.
-"as long as your completely happy with the colleges that don't require them, that i guess i would say go to your conventions" -but the fact of the matter is that while i think i would be quite happy at any of the schools eliminated, i don't have much reason to think i'll be any less happy at any of the schools that remain. -everytime i think about this and realize how much the USY card is obviously influencing like everything that i do, i remind myself that i'll be missing part of one of those conventions (the december one) for hte SAT, and i don't feel as bad about that.
-and for hte AP/IB thing, its a bummer.. although i have taken 2 IBs and 1 AP.. maybe they'll accept those? lol.
there is no calculus sat II. there is math I (mainly geometry) and math II (mainly trig). i took trig & studied the stuff the night before the test and got a 740. granted, i needed that night of studying, but that's all i needed (if you don't have too much difficulty with math). you really do need a 700 to be considered good. my 740 was around 70th percentile. crazy, i know. BUT, i thought i did horribly on both of my SAT IIs and was rather pleasantly surprised by both. the grading system is not as difficult as the SAT Is. a few other thoughts: have you considered the ACTs? i took them, did way better & almost every college accepts them in place of the SAT Is and IIs do you actually have to pay for the tests??? i mean, my parents were never excited about paying for them, but they certainly never expected me to. most of the stuff on the take SAT II list seemed like it belonged on the other list. or maybe i was reading wrong...
i don't have to pay for them, but my parents arnt the type to rejoice at having more to pay and would probably take it out of funds for other stuff that i'm doing. i should look into it though. you're right. i got confused. and will edit it.
Hi Joe! I decided to pop into to this discussion, since I'm a super-nerd and this is probably the only type of thing I can offer advice for. I say take the SAT II. My friend at school went through the same thing recently, and my mom and I were able to weedle her until she signed up. I don't know if you're a "math" person or not, but you can always take the Math IC (not through precalc) if you're not. The money thing is always irritating (the College Board milks us for all we're worth), but in the long run, I think you'll be happy you gave it a try. Also, hey, if you don't score well, still only apply to the schools who don't require them! They'll never see your scores and no harm will be done! Anyway, good luck with college and everything and I hope this helped :)
wow, that's a lot of schools. here's my feeling (and i'm gonna be honest, i didn't read your whole post year): you can still apply to schools without the SAT II and for those schools that take the common app (if you already have one for another school) i'd say go for it and see what happens. you never know, you could have something else that makes them really want you.
My friend Stephanie will probably be at bucknell next year. I think you'd really like her! if you both do end up there i'm so gonna make you meet!
