I just watched that Susan Blackmore talk and I have a few problems with it. Fundamentally I agree with her about memes, but I don't see exactly how technology is supposed to be different from memes. Technology has been a part of society for as long as memes have. In fact, tool use was one of the first kind of memes, and it is the first instance of technological innovation. So really, technology is just another kind of meme, it just happens to be one that can reshape the physical world more directly, and increasingly directly these days
