Halloween

I have to say I do not like the Halloween celebration in US. I was shocked when I first bumped into this many years ago. Could not understand how a Holy Day in the Church could be the time for breaking into houses and trashing gardens and emptying garbage bins all over the place. In fact they called it Mischief Night I think. It never seemed fun

hi peggy! oh dear, i hope you didn't get a migraine from those rambunctious trick-or-treaters. =)

but i don't think halloween is a christian holiday. isn't it rooted in the celtic feast day samhain? it's nov. 1st and 2nd that are the christian holidays.

i think the masks and disguises were traditionally used to ward off the evil spirits on samhain, while the trick-or-treating -- okay, i didn't know this until i looked it up -- stems from the catholic practice of "souling" (giving food to poor people in exchange for prayers said for the dead).

anyway, i had you had a more peaceful all saints' day and all souls' day. :-)
