Halloween

I have to say I do not like the Halloween celebration in US. I was shocked when I first bumped into this many years ago. Could not understand how a Holy Day in the Church could be the time for breaking into houses and trashing gardens and emptying garbage bins all over the place. hi peggy! oh dear, i hope you didn't get a migraine from those rambunctious trick-or-treaters. =)

but i don't think halloween is a christian holiday. isn't it rooted in the celtic feast day samhain? it's nov. 1st and 2nd that are the christian holidays.

i think the masks and disguises were traditionally used to ward off the evil spirits on samhain, while the trick-or-treating -- okay, i didn't know this until i looked it up -- stems from the catholic practice of "souling" (giving food to poor people in exchange for prayers said for the dead).

anyway, i had you had a more peaceful all saints' day and all souls' day. :-)
