wow. I never hid books or was told not to read certain books. ever. Infact when someone told her I shouldn't read harry potter she told them that her child knew the differece between fantasy and reality.

Me and my dad had a long conversation about Harry Potter not too long ago. He never tried to persuade us not to read it but he did say, in this conversation, that he'd have been just as happy if we didn't. Anything with magic and witches makes him uneasy. We had quite a long debate about kids knowing the difference between fantasy and reality. Considering that 85% of what I read is fantasy, I find his viewpoint completely inexplicable. I would never carry a belief in the occult over into my real life any more than I would believe in talking rodents after watching Mickey Mouse. Maybe my side of the argument had more of effect than I thought at the time, since he's now a die-hard fan of The Dresden Files.
