Well I'm mad at myself.
Four hours ago I was involved in a car accident. I was heading to Wal-Mart to pick up the family pictures we took when Lee was home (they came out wonderful love).
I was stopped at the light near the Sprint office. My cell phone started to ring so I reach into my purse to fish for it. My foot slipped off the brake an onto the gas. BAM! I hit the Blazer in front of me and he hit the truck in front of him.
*Hangs head in shame*
We all get out to make sure everyone is okay (we all were) and the guy in the front truck says he was going to call the police. While he is on the phone with them I ask if we should clear the road way. They tell him okay so we pull into the Sprint parking lot.
I look at my car (yes I was driving Fiona) and see I have some minor damage to the front plastic bumper, one of the fog/driving lights seems loose and there is a gouge where the guy had a hookup for a trailer hitch (you know one of the open square ones).
The guy in the Blazer just seems to have front and back bumper damage at first, but then while the cop is writing everything down he turns his car off (I presume because it was idling funny). He tries to crank it back up and it won't. He lets it sit some more and tries again. No luck. Me and the driver of the truck notice there is an oily slick under his car. He asks if there was a leak before and the guy says "Heck no." They guy in the truck said it looked like oil and transmission fluid. Don't know how the accident could have 'caused it though.
The guy in the truck also has some back bumper damage and the rear quarter panel has a crease from where the bumper pushed up against it. He gets to leave first and as he is pulling off I notice he has a kink in the middle of his front bumper. Makes me wonder if it was there before or if he hit the person in front of him too. He told me that he had only had the truck a week too. *Hangs head again*
The guy in the Blazer has to have someone come pick him up since his car is going to have to be towed. *Hangs head even lower*
The officer comes up to me and gives me a citation. Tells me he called his boss and asked about it and they went with the lesser charge of "Driver to exercise due caution" which is a $58 fine instead of "Following too closely" at $80+. Since the cars were stopped and the cell phone was involved the lesser charge seemed right. I appreciated the fact they went with the lesser one as well. I have until Aug. 3 to pay or appear in court. I think I am going to pay, the accident was my fault after all.
When I got home I look at Fi some more and notice the hood looks out of alignment or something. The gap is bigger on the right side than the left. I can't tell if it is bent funny or not though. I plan on calling the insurance company first thing in the morning, and also calling to see when my police report will be ready to pick up. I don't even want to think about what this is going to do to the insurance.
P.S. Oh and who was it that called? Jenny.
