Crank lengths are more standardized, but what may be an issue is the height of the bottom bracket itself. Road bikes have lower bottom brackets and thereby lower ground clearance, but MTBs generally have more. Increased pedal strikes due to change of tires sounds strange. Maybe your bike does have longer cranks, in addition to a lower bottom bracket. Park the bike and keep the pedals in 12 o clock and 6 o clock positions and measure the clearance from the ground to the pedal, for the lower (6 o clock) pedal and also the crank arm length (measured from middle of crank hole to middle of pedal hole).
