On the road, a hers and/or his story of ex-ness, may or may not be sufficiently compelling to relate with one's (w/ hat tip to Bill) co-conspirator, beyond the story line. You decide.
On my own road, the story line of my history comes up from time to time in relation to an ex for whom I feel gratitude for travelling a while with, and having a significant formative influence, on me. For better or worse, that feeling is a valued part of me. When she comes to town her emails go to old friends, who can arrange to get together. The feeling is known and understood by the co-conspirators in our house and we conspire together on how she might fit into our own road trip.

Our trip, our story. The gratitude is shared.
