I don't have enough emotional distance there. I desperately want things to be better. I don't want to shout and cry and throw things in frustration

Be careful with that ergonomic keyboard. Most aren't actually any better for you (some are significantly worse).

I've found the best thing to do is to already have had 10 years of piano lessons - thus good keyboard habits are burned into your brain and you get to be extra picky about the touch your computer keyboard has (and so you go crazy looking for something with mechanical keyswitches).

Also, if you have time, I'm sure your local Obama campaign office would love to have you do some work for them (voter reg., calling people, data entry ...) :)
