And I am only peripherally paying attention to politics lately, for the same reasons I can't watch movies which involve characters embarrassing themselves (such as Welcome to the Dollhouse). I don't have enough emotional distance there. I desperately want things to be better. I don't want to shout and cry and throw things in frustration

I've found the best thing to do is to already have had 10 years of piano lessons - thus good keyboard habits are burned into your brain and you get to be extra picky about the touch your computer keyboard has (and so you go crazy looking for something with mechanical keyswitches).
Also, if you have time, I'm sure your local Obama campaign office would love to have you do some work for them (voter reg., calling people, data entry ...) :)

So you can re-wind and check "hey, did he really SAY THAT??!?"
So you can turn it off and go get stuff done.
As a Law and Order junkie, I had to hear Arthur Branch Fred Thompson speak. He was pretty good too. I wish he'd gotten the nomination.
